Aloha.....Welcome to
the
LAKA
Foundation. Please feel free to “Voyage” around at what we're
doing. Return, and visit us often as things we will be updating our progress in
our educational journey and cultural preservation of the “children of the Long
Canoe”.
Mahalo for stopping by.

The Beginning
LAKA
is conceptualized throughout and within Hawaiian voyaging traditions and
history. The term, having its origin in mathematics,
LAKA
, represents- "total; the sum total of; together; to bring together as one,
unity as one". So also does
LAKA
unite the gifts provided in nature transcending the lands and sea. To this
spirit of ALOHA, we give thanks. The goddess
LAKA
, patroness of the dance, hula, goddess of fertility, is the gentle sister of
PELE, the goddess of fire.
LAKA
represents the forest where the dancers gather their flowers, leis (garlands)
and ferns for adornment of their bodies and their sacred temples. In the forest
the sacred, and stately Koa trees are found. It is from the Koa tree that the
Kahuna Kalai Wa’a (master canoe builder) selects the perfect log from which he
will build his canoe; the center of life,-LAKA
. Her grace represents the essence of harmony, strength, discipline, science and
courage. Our canoes are built according to the
LAKA
design. This design is that of the
LAKA
Foundations Kahuna Kalai Wa’a, Raymond Bumatay from the Big Island. It is
therefore, under these concepts, the
LAKA
Foundation presents its purpose. Follow the links and learn more about our
vision, ideas and interests.
